Learning how to sing is all about keeping a classical tone, Celine Dion style vibrato and belted high notes - right? Of course not. What about bands that actually have FUN when they're playing and have their own unique sound that doesn't sound like a hooting owl? Let's say we do a Ghost RITUAL Vocal Cover
Don't get me wrong, singing about vikings is cool and all - but I used to have trouble understanding exactly how all that classical training and funny sounds applied to actual singing with the songs that I really wanted to sing.
Now, I'm a pretty oldschool guy - I grew up with Blue Oyster Cult and Roky Erickson.
So you can imagine my surprise when GHOST came on the scene doing exactly that; a weird mix of BOC, Mercyful Fate and old Roky, packaged up in hilarious intrigue and mystique.
So when it recently came time to record a new vocal cover for my voice coaching channel, I just couldn't go past doing a cover of my favourite Ghost song RITUAL. Check it out below:
Ghost - Ritual | Vocal Cover
Rather than obsessing about classical perfection, I decided to just go for it and be natural - and really do it in my own style.
The original is a touch on the speechy side, and has a weaker breathy delivery - which in the context of a Ghost song is really cool and just adds to the mystique. But it's just not my thing personally, so I decided to really take those original influences like Blue Oyster Cult and Roky Erickson and do something a little less cartoony.
This cover was just SO much fun to do - and I really enjoyed using this song to demonstrate The Four Vocal Fundamentals
Let me know if you have any questions about this Ghost - Ritual | Vocal Cover or how to approach covering this song yourself.
