I've been an Alice in Chains fan since I first heard "Them Bones" on a metal compilation in the mid 90's.

The riffs, the sludge, the drums, the driving bass...

But most of all, Layne Staley's vocal range.

That incredible voice, all grit and gravel with an incredible range both high and low - what more could you ask for in a rock singer?

I've actually been studying Layne Staley's voice for over 20 years, and as a professional voice teacher I can confirm - boy could really sing.

Now you might think that learning how to sing like Layne Staley is all about rolling your "R"s and wearing the darkest sunnies you can find - but the truth about Layne's vocal technique is a little more intense.

In short, Layne was a spectacular singer with excellent technique - which is why he was so spot on and so hard to emulate for other singers who might cop his style, but really don't get the depth of his ability to sing.

As a teacher, I've kinda become known as the How To Sing Like Chris Cornell guy - but truth be told, Layne Staley has always been my guy as a singer.

Here's what I've learned from singing like Layne Staley for the last 20 years, and teaching singers all around the world just like you how to sing like Layne Staley for the last 10+ years here in my vocal studio.
