Sing like a natural... even if you're not one!
Hi! I'm Kegan, founder of the Foundation Vocal Method.
I took vocal training from 1997 until 2007 - weekly lessons, courses, books, cassettes (yep, I'm that old), DVDs, VHS courses - you name it, I tried it all.
Pages and pages of vocal exercises, thousands of hours of practice - but I could still barely carry a tune in a bucket.
The worst thing was singing in FRONT of other people. Even when I was doing okay with exercises, the second I got in front of anyone, my voice would just clam up - the shouting, straining and struggling would return.
You see, I've since discovered that there's three anatomical keys that separate 'natural' singers who simply step up to the mic and sing well... and the rest of us.
The first is the involuntary nature of the voice - you can't just "flex" the vocal folds or the cricothyroid, but these are the very systems all those exercises you've been doing are meant to develop.
If those suckers are switched off in your voice by default, you've got absolutely no hope of becoming a better singer.
... oh yeah, did I mention that you CAN actually turn these systems on, even in someone who ISN'T a natural? 👈
You see, there's a process I call the Formant Activation system that involves three keys;
- Involuntary vocal innervation
- Reflex tonal control
- Formant activation
You see, there's a specific set of innervation systems that control your vocal mechanism, and when you learn to activate these systems, the sky really is the limit with the range and voice you're capable of developing.
Secondly, the voice is a tool of reflex - meaning, it physically responds to your expression and tone - once you HARNESS these tonal reflexes, your voice will finally start to understand the instructions you've been trying to give it for so many months or years!
Finally, your pitch and your vowel are intrinsically linked by the first formant of your vowel - meaning, if you change one... you need to change the other to match!
Turning these systems on allows you to activate your formants and finally sing like a natural ... even if you're not one!

Best of all, the process is actually quite simple once you try it. No weird exercises/techniques, just the stuff that works.
