If you're looking for vocal training online, the absolute WORST thing that you could do right now is go on YouTube and search for singing lessons or vocal training online - it's an absolute minefield of 'reaction' videos, bad advice and hyper personalities looking for any chance to sell you their courses.

There's some good stuff on there, sure, but ultimately it's a pit of despair for any singer that gets stuck on that "YouTube Loop" of video after video after video with people talking ABOUT singing, but not actually SHOWING YOU how to actually do it yourself.

You're even going to come across massive coaching channels that hire hot girls to sing covers of popular songs on the channel to bump up views, all while showing you NOTHING about how to actually sing better yourself.

They do say that sex sells, but if you're SERIOUS about actually learning how to sing yourself, not just watch a pretty picture singing well and looking great on the screen while they do it, there's something absolutely imperative you must do first before diving into the world of vocal training online.

... And that's to first understand the "why" and the "how".

You're going to come across plenty of channels that talk about 'mixed voice' like it's some mystical, magical unicorn you're going to find by making donkey sounds or wearing tight trousers.

If you don't understand WHAT it is, WHY it works like that, and then HOW to actually do it - it's absolutely pointless throwing those terms and concepts around.

That would be like bolting an expensive exhaust system onto a car that you don't even know how to drive... or worse, doesn't even have an engine.

This is how a lot of those bigger channels roll however, and that's okay if you're looking for netflix style entertainment, but the real key is to first understand WHAT they're talking about, and WHY they're giving you this advice - only then is it going to actually work for you to increase your range and help you sing better.

Let me give you an example; vowels.

What IS a vowel at the end of the day?

You're probably going to say something like "A, E, I, O, U my man!" - however, these are just written representations of your spoken vowels - take any word that has an "A" consonant in it;

Apple

Away

Afternoon

August

Same vowel, but all pronounced differently, right?

This is why it's been going over your head when a teacher talks about vowels - because you don't actually understand the "what" and "why" of the advice they're giving, you're just thinking "A, E, I, O, U" and hoping for the best when you sing.

So, a little truth bomb for you - your vowel is actually a frequency.

Two frequencies to be exact.

And this frequency is derived from the speed of vibration of your vocal folds and the waves of sound and frequency that this creates.

But so does your PITCH.

Quite literally, the speed at which your vocal folds vibrate is the pitch that you're singing it.

But hang on, if the frequency of our vowel is derived from vibration of the vocal folds, and our PITCH is also derived from vibration of the vocal folds - what happens when you increase your pitch?

You're starting to get it now, right?

There's a "What", "How", "why" and even "When" with every piece of advice and concept that you learn - and if you jump straight to the finish line with something like mixed voice, or vowel modification - you're going to fall very short... and waste a whole ton of time and money in the process.

Here's a much better way to get started;
