Singing high notes without straining is an empowering and exciting feeling - but if you're straining, struggling and missing the notes time after time, it can be a stressful and devastating experience.

I would know, I used to push, strain, struggle and gargle my way through even the simplest of rock songs.

But using the simple but effective approach I'm sharing with you here in this tutorial, my range has opened up to an impressive 3 octaves, my coaching studio is booked months in advance, and I've released three full length albums with much acclaim to my vocal abilities.

Pretty big turnaround from a singer who literally croaked through songs that even beginners would call easy, right?

Singing high notes without straining is actually easier than you realise, but it comes with a set of important rules you need to follow.

And no, I'm not going to give you some lame list like "support your voice, sing bright, open your mouth" <- that shit just isn't going to fly here for singing high notes without straining.

In fact, if you're stretching your mouth wide open and pushing down like you're constipated, you're probably HURTING your chances of singing high notes at all, let alone with power and freedom.

Now, the most important thing you need to understand about singing high notes without straining is that your PITCH and your VOWEL are intrinsically linked.

Think about it - your vocal folds come together and vibrate, creating frequencies and resonance - and some of this resulting resonance and frequencies make up the tone and sound that you're singing, in effect the VOWEL that you sing.

An EH vowel like the word HEAD has a specific frequency, and an AH vowel like the word HARD has a different frequency, right?

Now, being that your pitch and vowel are linked in this way, I'm sure you can imagine what happens when you ask for the same vowel while trying to change the pitch - you get a mismatch between the note you're singing and how those frequencies make up the words you're singing.

The solution here is a simple technique called vowel modification - basically, your vowel must match your pitch.

It's MUCH easier than you realise.

Here's how to sing your vowels correctly - watch this video to learn the 4 powerful rules you must follow for singing high notes without straining!
